- LONG AND SHORT DYEBATHSThese terms refer to the ratio of the weight of liquor contained in a dyebath to the weight of goods to be dyed. By a " long bath " is meant a bath where the ratio of dye liquor to cloth is greater than 6 to 1; that is, a dilute bath. Often the ratio may be as dilute as 20 to 1. A " short bath " is a concentrated bath such as when the ratio is from 3 to 1 to 5 to 1
